Camps run each each June - August.  Look for our schedule and register early to get the date you would like.  Registration starts March 15th.

So what makes our camps special?

  1. Small camp size: Each session is limited to 12 campers and there are 2 knowledgeable head counselors for each camp with an additional 2-4 volunteer helpers so each camper gets individualized attention and safety is easily maintained
  2. Riding instruction: campers of each session are divided into 2-3 groups and each day they have a small group lesson.  This is separate from other hands on horse activities, including grooming and ground work with the horses.
  3. The Horses: Our horses are carefully chosen and matched to each rider to provide the perfect balance of fun, challenge and safety.
  4. The Facility: conveniently located only 10 minutes from downtown Eugene, we offer 2 covered arenas for all weather riding, a playground for letting off that extra energy and close access to over a 150 acres of trails. All this is part of a family farm type atmosphere complete with resident chickens and peacocks.

5.   FUN!!!: Our goal at camps is fun and learning without sacrificing safety

At Longacres Farm we offer a safe fun-filled atmosphere for riders to learn.  Each camper is assigned a horse for the week allowing them to develop a bond and confidence in their equine friend.  During daily rides, campers practice correct riding techniques that will provide a foundation for any equine sport.  .  In addition they will have several opportunities to explore the local trails.  At all times safety is stressed.  Unlike other summer camps, that may have 30-50 campers, we restrict the number of campers (for each camp) to 12 so each camper gets individualized instruction and lots of support.

Horsemanship lessons are an important part of the camp experience.  Before each ride the campers groom and clean the hooves of their assigned horse.  Students are also expected to help with the daily routine, helping take care of the horses and maintain a healthy home for them.  Time is also devoted to studying our equine friends.  Some topics discussed are different breeds, proper feeding techniques and understanding horse psychology.  This is all done in a fun, and exciting way.

We also do a variety of arts and crafts to encourage the creative side of the campers.  From squawking paper cup chickens to horseshoe picture frames they will always go home with something to show.

The facility:  Longacres Farm is located just 20 minutes from downtown Eugene.  With two indoor riding arenas and a heated classroom we are prepared for all weather.  In addition we have an outdoor playground complete with climbing structure and swings to help get out the wiggles before sending them home.  We also have access to a network of private trails in the beautiful surrounding hills.

The Horses:  We offer a variety of horse breeds, such as Arabian, Quarter Horse, Morgan and POA, for students to learn on.  Our horses are selected especially for their quiet temperament, patient manner and, responsive attitude.

Scholarships:
Full and partial scholarships are available through any social service agency or your church.  If your service worked does not know about them have them contact Greg at 344-7320 or sales@longacresfarm.com to arrange one.  The amount of scholarship is at the sole discretion of Longacres and is based on need.  There are a limited number.
