Chinese Oak wood is a dense, fine grained hardwood, similar to Teak - which is about 5% harder than Red Oak. This offers a very durable outdoor product when used for patio and garden furniture.

The heartwood of Chinese Oak is light brown and some boards have a lighter pinkish tint to them, similar to Western Red Cedar. This results in a very showy and attractive material for building outdoor patio furniture.

The wood fibers in Chinese Oak contain tannic acids which protect it from fungi decay and insect attack, much like the high level of resinous oil in teak wood and the tannins in cedar wood do. This natural weather-proofing ability makes Chinese Oak an ideal wood for outdoor patio furniture and garden structures.
