Crystal is gone

Crystal Shadow of Longacres has passed away.  Crystal who came to Longacres when she was 6 months old is ˝ sister to Sara.  She was 22 years-old and has been healthy all her life.  On September 18, 2008, she had developed very serious colic.  The Veterinarian examined her and concluded that she had a strangulated intestine and it was fatal.  This can happen when a fatty tumor grows from the top of the abdominal wall.  The tumor grows and hangs down and when it is long enough and the horse rolls, it can swing around a section of intestine and strangle it.  This is what happened and it took Crystal’s life.

Crystal was Greg’s horse replacing his Arabian Gelding.  She rode all over the Cascade Mountains in her youth with Nancy (on Sara) and Greg.  She had a “pushy” personality but was loyal and very dependable on the trail.  She talked a lot when she wanted something.  She was strong and dominated  other horses.  Crystal will always he remembered by Greg as a horse "looking tough but really a gentle loving horse who gave 22 years of her life to our service".  Crystal is buried at Omega Farms in Noti Oregon.  We will all miss her.

First Summer Camp - What FUN!

The first camp was a big success!  We only 7 campers ages 6 to 11.  The camp was not full which was good so the new camp staff could get their feet wet and work out the bugs.  Actually the staff don’t need to get their feet wet they have been up to their eye balls in groups of kids in camps and many other kinds of activities for a long time.  We should have some pictures soon.

The next only two camps left are almost full so if you are interested and have not signed up do it yesterday!
